Who I am

Pier Paolo Pozzi, born in 1964, is an Italian jazz drummer and composer. From 1983 to 1986, he studied at the Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio in Rome, focusing on jazz technique, reading, and improvisation under teachers such as Massimo D’Agostino, Giovanna Marini, Martin Joseph, Francesco Marini, Danilo Terenzi, and Giancarlo Gazzani.

Throughout his career, Pier Paolo Pozzi has performed in various musical contexts, evolving within the Italian jazz scene. He has played with artists like Antonello Salis, Crystal White, Alex Britti, Danilo Terenzi, Donovan Mixon, Fabio Zeppetella, Ares Tavolazzi, Tony Scott, Marcello Rosa, Maurizio Giammarco, Riccardo Fassi, and many others.

In 1993, he moved to Paris, where he continued to perform with various formations as both a leader and a session musician. He collaborated with musicians such as Daniel Mille, Jean Jacques Avenel, Pierre de Bethmann, Michel Graillier, Jean-Loup Longnon, Bobby Few, Gil Naturel, Richard Clemens, Gimmy Gourley, Denis Le Loup, Barend Midelhoff, Olivier Ker Ourio, Paula West, Giovanni Mirabassi, Ronnie Lynn Patterson, Harold Singer, Joe Chindamo, Joshua Redman, and many more.

In May 1998, Pier Paolo Pozzi replaced Lewis Nash in Tommy Flanagan’s Trio, performing with Peter Washington on bass for a series of concerts at the Alliance Jazz Club de Paris.
